24 April 1851 - We will go to Australia

Times are tough here in Ireland and I don't know how we are to survive another Winter with little money or food. Yesterday I heard that gold has been discovered in Australia. Lizzy and the children don't really want to travel over there with no guarantee of striking it rich but we just can't stay here and suffer as we are doing. I have mad a decision and today I bought tickets on the ship. It leaves next week and in no time at all I will be searching for our fortune. I am so excited about this new change and can't wait to get to Australia and learn how to find gold.
